The character of Signal Hill is exemplified by its calm ambience. This part of the city is very quiet, as there are low levels of noise from traffic. Lastly, it is very easy to access parks in the neighbourhood since there are over 100 of them nearby for residents to discover.

Around 90% of the population of this neighbourhood own their home and renters make up the remainder. In this neighbourhood, roughly two thirds of dwellings are single detached homes, and the remaining properties are mainly small apartment buildings. This part of Calgary experienced its largest construction boom in the 1990s, so most of the available housing is from this era. This neighbourhood offers mainly three bedroom and four or more bedroom homes.

In Signal Hill, parents and their schoolchildren will generally be able to get to daycares as pedestrians. In contrast, high schools are not very abundant in Signal Hill, and therefore not always within walking distance, and there are no primary schools. As far as food is concerned, it is very rarely practical for property owners in this part of Calgary to do grocery shopping as pedestrians. Furthermore, those who like to eat in restaurants will have a fair number of choices, and there are also a few cafes in Signal Hill. Home buyers benefit from a fair number of nearby clothing stores.

Travelling by car is convenient in Signal Hill. It is straightforward to park. On the other hand, travelling by public transit is sometimes challenging in Signal Hill. Nonetheless, residents can depend on 69th Street Station and Sirocco Station with access to the Blue Line - Saddletowne/69 Street CTrain. There are about 10 bus lines, and the closest bus stop is generally very close by. Signal Hill is amenable to cycling as the bicycling network is well-developed. In contrast, walking is not very common in this part of Calgary, despite the fact that running common errands is convenient without a vehicle.
